Purpose
This guide will walk you through how to setup the integration for Slack, sync shoutouts to a Slack channel like #kudos or #shoutouts, and sync comments between Slack and Cleary.
Installing the integration for Slack
The Cleary integration for Slack offers the following benefits:
- Enable employees to receive notifications via Slack
- Enable creators of Events, Articles, & Team Updates to push announcements to Slack channels
- Enable the /shoutout command so employees can create Shoutouts in Cleary from Slack
To install the integration for Slack, you will need the Super Admin or IT Manager permissions in Cleary and Slack admin permission. You will find the Slack integration in the Admin > App Integrations > Messaging section.
Simply click "Install" and follow the authorization prompt. Cleary allows you to install a single or multiple workspaces. Just repeat the process to install multiple Slack workspaces.
Once installed, employees will be able to receive notifications via Slack, select channels to push alerts when creating Events, Articles, and Team Updates, and use the `/shoutout` command to create Shoutouts in Cleary from Slack.
Syncing Shoutouts between Slack <> Cleary
If you have dedicated channels where people celebrate each other's support and work, we highly recommend syncing Shoutouts in Cleary to the matching Slack channel.
Once the integration for Slack is installed, employees will be able to use the /shoutout command in Slack to create Shoutouts in Cleary.
You can take it a step farther by also enabling Shoutouts from Cleary to sync into a specific Slack channel. In order to this up, you will need to reach out to your Cleary representative. Just share the name of the channel (i.e. #shoutouts) and they'll set it up for you!
Enabling 2-way Sync between Cleary & Slack
Cleary's 2-way sync for comments works for Shoutouts and notifications for Events, Articles, and Team updates created by Cleary. Once you have the integration for Slack installed, the Slack app will create a Slackbot for Cleary named @Cleary listed under Apps.
In order to enable 2-way sync, you will need to add the Slackbot to the public channels you want to connect to Cleary.
Upgrading Slack
Sometimes, when new features are released in Cleary, you'll need to upgrade the Slack App within Admin.
To do so, head to Admin → Integrations → Messaging. In the Slack module, click Install to upgrade the app.
Note: We do not recommend clicking Uninstall, then Install when upgrading Slack in Cleary. This could lose integration with Slack channels you've set up across Cleary.
